Acting Troupe Week 3

 Acting Troupe:

Please have your kids have Scene 1, 8, 9 and 10 memorized, with songs. We will be reviewing our staging from last week and I need to have them without any scripts in their faces. The tracks for singing along and learning are still on the post from last week. Please have them down with the changes we made last week.
Also, please contact me if you would like me to print up a script for your child(ren). I am happy to do so, just don't want to duplicate if you have already.
Thanks for everything and especially to Penny who is seeking out a location for us! Keep her in your prayers :D.

Lightside Choir week 3

Lightside Choir: please have your kids review the following vocal tracks for the songs we are singing. Not every song has an individual track and not everyone needs to sing all the tracks.

If your child wants to just sing melody, have them continue to use the original list for most of them. Just focus on the melodies from "Inscription of Hope" and "Hallelujah" from this playlist as those songs have different parts.
If your child wants to sing harmony, just have them decide which one they want to do. The kids were all split into two parts for "The Other Side." Please let me know if they don't remember which side they are on.
They were AWESOME last week! We are going to have a lot of fun this semester!
Here's the link:
let me know if it doesn't work 😃.

Lightside Choir Week 2 and Links to Song Words

 Hi everyone!

Please have your children review every song until they are comfortable singing along, using the words in the documents linked here.

Here is the playlist for the songs that I want them to sing along with from youtube:

Sing-a-long Youtube Lightside List

It is unlisted and only find-able from this link.

*****

Three things:

-Please have your children read the lyrics from the above documents while singing the songs.

-I have not included the words for Danny Boy because they have not shipped the music yet, so the kids don't need to review that one.

-I only have the words for "The Other Side" listed and we will review them on our own because the original song has one word that we are filtering out and the kids don't ever need to hear the original. Please read through the lyrics, though, so they are completely comfortable with the words so we can teach them the song next week.

Okay, four :D...

-For the song, "Hallelujah" there are many different forms of the song words so I have selected the ones that I feel are most appropriate for our choir, with it's participants and vision.  Please only have your kids listen to the track I recorded on Youtube because I have included the words we will be singing and the rhythm we will be using.

I will do practice with the assumption that you have had your kids review the songs.  If your kids have done it, practice will go well. If they do not, practice may be frustrating for them so please make sure they have done this.

I have included a couple tracks that have some harmony. I will eventually have the harmony parts recorded for all the songs with harmony parts.  We will be breaking out into sections to review them this week for those who want to learn different parts.  Those who don't, can just sing the melody...no problem!

We will also have many solo opportunities and will do mini-auditions this week.  If your kids are ready with the songs, it will be easy for them to try out.

Pretty please contact me if any of this is confusing or if you have any questions!  Or just reply in the comment section below.

Super excited to make music with this group!!

Acting Troupe Week 2

For next week, we are going to work on perfecting the first and last scenes, so please have them memorized by next week.

We will also be reviewing scene 8 and 9.

Please review and memorize the songs for those scenes.

The vocal tracks, updated scripts, and performance tracks are also available on the links earlier on this blog

Opening Day of Lightside Performing Arts!!

Today we will be starting both the choir and the acting troupe!  We are so excited!!

LIGHTSIDE CHOIR

For those willing to help with the choir, we will be having a short meeting at 12:30 pm right before choir starts.  We will be handing out folders for the youth to use here in class.  Here is a link to access all the lyrics for the songs for this semester. (I will send a link with the background music and practice tracks to listen to later.)

We will be doing some warm-ups, a small "get-to-know-you" activity and then run through most of our songs so we can get a feel for what we are doing and how this group with operate.

For those who let me know ahead of time they would be gone, please review the songs and lyrics with your youth.  There are a few adaptations to the songs that I have made (like replacing the curse word in "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman) so please have the youth review the actual lyrics when they go over it with the background music. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" also has many adaptations and I have adapted ours to suit our audience better, so that will also be noted in the song lyrics.

The song list will be complete by tomorrow, so I will post links then.

ACTING TROUPE

Normally I will do these on separate posts, but am just going to shoot this one out for today with both groups included, as they do not overlap other than being part of the same parent organization :D.

We are excited to get going on this play!!! Everyone should know their parts and have access to a complete script. Please let me know ASAP if you did not print one up for your youth so I can print one up for them.  The link is here for the adapted script.

We will be going over the songs today, following along with the performance tracks so we can become familiar with how that works.  We will also be reviewing the opening and closing scene with staging.  We will do one read through as well as have some exercises/activities to help with our acting abilities.

Looking forward to seeing y'all soon!!

Speech Class 3/3/21

 Yesterday's speech class went great!

We reviewed each of our desires and purposes in participating in the class.  In addition to what is on the site, we came up with these:

-get through to people with our ideas

-public speaking prep

-to become worthy advocates of truth

-be courageous and comfortable in public speaking

-it's fun!

-learn how to arrange thoughts.

The youth also mentioned that they would like to do a debate class after we finish with this one, perhaps focusing on recognizing fallacies.

We looked at the "why" of learning how to improve our speaking abilities.  We also learned why it is so important to be able to deliver and receive constructive criticism so we can help each other improve with our suggestions and observations.

We read the first part of chapter 1 of "Secrets of the Great Communicators," reviewing Ronald Reagan and what made him an influential speaker.

We then watched two short clips from his speaking career:
